Key Takeaways

3D renders are often not given for free before signing because they can take 2–20 hours to produce and may be costly if outsourced.
Interior designers may ask for a $500–$2,000 deposit before giving 3D drawings, with the amount usually offset from the renovation quotation.
Some interior designers may provide 3D renders at no charge after in-depth discussions if they feel the homeowner is sincere.

Interior Designers are cautious of giving away 3D renderings for free because:
1) It takes ~2-20 hours to produce depending on the complexity of the project and rendering requirements e.g. 360° views, 720° virtual tours etc.

2) Some Homeowners may hand their designs to another Interior Designer

3) It can be costly (if they outsource the work)
