Key Takeaways

Homeowners should “stalk” renovators before meeting them by checking compatibility and credibility to avoid wasting time with unsuitable Interior Designers.
Compatibility checks should cover chemistry, portfolio, and budget preference, since renovators differ by design style, property type, lifestyle needs, and minimum budgets.
Credibility checks should focus on Facebook reviews, the CaseTrust mark, and whether renovators are transparent about reviews, past projects, and individual profiles.

Blind dates are a no-go, don’t waste 1-3 hours in a meeting to find out that a renovator can’t meet your needs.

To skip disappointments, “stalk” them before setting appointments...

Your stalking should revolve around:
‍1) Compatibility
2) Credibility

Compatibility: Specific Renovators who meet your Specific Needs

‍

What to look out for:

1. Chemistry

Renovation is an intimate process that takes ~6-8 weeks to complete.

You want to be confident that your Renovator is someone you can vibe with and understands your specific needs.

HomeMatch makes it super easy for you to "stalk" Renovators before meeting them. We’ve got them on video and slid in a couple of juicy facts.

‍2. Portfolio

Every Renovator has a different level of experience when it comes to design style, property types, lifestyle needs (e.g. senior-friendly homes), and even project features (e.g. open-concept kitchens).

HomeMatch lets you peek into a Renovator’s projects and reviews before meeting them.

3. Budget preference

Some Renovators have minimum budget requirements while others prefer to work with a smaller budget.

This is usually not stated upfront as Renovators may not want to lose the opportunity to meet you.

You might end up getting ghosted after the meeting.

Credibility: Finding Renovators you can trust

No one wants to be the next victim of a reno horror — Credibility should be a pre-requisite.

Unfortunately, renovation happens to be the industry that receives the most complaints in Singapore.

🚩 Avoid red flags, spot green flags:

1. Check Facebook Reviews

Fake Reviews are rampant. Facebook is our preferred source of truth for its neutrality. Plus, you can easily check if reviewers are real people e.g. account activity, no. of friends, profile photo, account creation date etc.

‍Google Reviews comes in 2^nd but it is harder to spot fake reviews there.

2. Lookout for the ‘CaseTrust’ Mark

Renovators with the CaseTrust mark undergo rigorous assessment which verifies that it has good business practices.

Working with renovators with the CaseTrust mark ensures that you’re protected before, during, and after the renovation.
